By Josh Mosiondz, Minor Use Coordinator, OMAFA, Guelph
The Pesticides Regulatory Directorate (PRD, formerly known as the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA)), recently announced the approval of a minor use label expansion registration for AIM® Herbicide for control of labelled weeds on lavender flowers in Canada. AIM® Herbicide was already labeled for management of weeds on a wide range of crops in Canada. This minor use proposal was submitted by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Pest Management Centre as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel.
The following is provided as an abbreviated, general outline only. Users should be making weed management decisions within a robust integrated weed management program and should consult the complete label before using AIM® Herbicide.
Note: This registration is intended to cover lavender flowers (buds) used as a culinary herb for human consumption. The label only precludes the use of lavender leaves for human consumption.
| Crop(s) | Target | Rate (mL product/ha) | Application Information | PHI (days) |
| Lavender flowers | Control of labelled weeds | 36.5 – 117 | Apply with hooded sprayer to control labelled weeds between the rows of emerged crop. Apply in a minimum of 100 L of water per hectare. DO NOT harvest fresh or dry lavender leaves for human consumption. Hooded sprayers must be designed, adjusted and operated in such a manner as to totally enclose the spray nozzles, tips and pattern and to prevent any spray deposition to green stem tissue, foliage, blooms or fruit of the crop being treated. Crop injury will occur when spray is allowed to come in contact with the green stem tissue, leaves, blooms or fruit of the crop. | 0 |
This product contains an active ingredient and aromatic petroleum distillates, which are toxic to aquatic organisms. Toxic to non-target terrestrial plants. Observe spray buffer zones specified under DIRECTIONS FOR USE. To reduce runoff from treated areas into aquatic habitats avoid application to areas with a moderate to steep slope, compacted soil, or clay. Avoid application when heavy rain is forecast. Contamination of aquatic areas as a result of runoff may be reduced by including a vegetative filter strip between the treated area and the edge of the water body. Additional guidance can be found on the Runoff Mitigation portion of the Canada.ca website.
Follow all other precautions, restrictions, and directions for use on the AIM® Herbicide label carefully.
