Just in time for the holidays, the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of URMULE registrations for Select® and Centurion® Herbicide for control of labeled weeds on some herbs and spices and hops in Canada. Containing the active ingredient clethodim, Select and Centurion are post emergent herbicides labelled for the control of a range of grassy weeds, including foxtail, wild oats, barnyard grass, volunteer cereals, proso millet, crabgrass and for the control or suppression of quackgrass. Refer to the product labels for the full list of weeds controlled.
These minor use projects were sponsored by Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, Pest Management Centre as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel. We thank Jim Chaput, OMAFRA Minor Use Coordinator, the PMC, the product registrants and all others involved for their assistance with this registration.
The following is provided as an abbreviated, general outline only. Users should be making pest management decisions within a robust integrated weed management program and should consult the complete label before using Select® or Centurion® Herbicide.

A maximum of one application is permitted per season, with a 12 hour restricted entry interval and a preharvest interval of 21 days. Select must be used with an adjuvant as specified on the product label.
Select and Centurion were also registered on many members of Crop Group 19, Herbs and Spices, including lavender, basil, oregano, thyme, sage, rosemary. These herbicides were already registered on dill, chives and cilantro. For the full list of registered herbs and spice, consult the product label. On crop group 19 herbs, Select and Centurion can be applied at a rate of 0.19 L/ha.
