Success and Entrust Insecticides Approved for Control of Leafrollers on Ginseng

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of an URMULE registration for Success and Entrust Insecticides (spinosad) for control of leafrollers on ginseng. These products were already labeled for use on a wide range of horticultural crops in Canada.

Success and Entrust are different formulations of the same active ingredient. Entrust is approved for organic production by many certifying bodies. Organic growers need to ensure Entrust is approved by their own certifying body before applying the product.

The following is provided as an abbreviated, general outline only. Users should consult the complete label before using Success or Entrust Insecticide.

For the control of leafrollers, apply Success at the rate of 145 to 182 millilitres of product per hectare or apply Entrust at the rate of 290 to 364 millilitres of product per hectare in sufficient water volume for complete coverage of the plant foliage.  Use the upper rate under high insect pressure and/or for large larvae. Repeat applications based on monitoring of insect populations.  Allow 7-10 between applications.  Apply a maximum of 3 applications per year.  Do not apply within 3 days of harvest. Applications should be timed at egg hatch or to small larvae.

Follow all other precautions and directions for use on the Success and Entrust label carefully.

We wish to acknowledge the personnel of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency for evaluating and approving these pest management tools and Dow AgroSciences Canada Inc. for supporting the label expansion in Canada.
