Lavender Farm Tour and Educational Event Sept. 27

The Ontario Lavender Association is holding an in-person education and networking event at Woodland North Lavender Farm in Madoc on Saturday, September 27th from 9am-4pm. This event is being offered to non-members of OLA at $30 per person (no cost for OLA members).

Join OLA for a fun-filled day of networking, exploring and learning at Woodland North Lavender Farm in Madoc! The day will include a tour from Bonnie Moore of Woodland North and presentations on Estate Planning with an advisor, and an educational presentation from Sean Westerveld-see agenda below for more details.

Coffee and snacks (homemade lavender & blueberry scones and cider) will be provided. For lunch, we will enjoy Bonnie’s homemade squash and apple soup and Italian sandwiches. For dessert, lavender cake!

9:30am: Introductions. Bonnie will give us a tour of the farm and provide an informal presentation discussing the development of their farm, challenges and current operations.

Noon: Lunch

1:00pm: Presentation from Shannon Neely, CLU, CHS: Estate and Succession Planning for Farmers: What will happen to your farm if you become disabled or pass away? Learn about creating a strategy to manage and distribute your assets and transition your business and wealth to your beneficiaries, while minimizing taxes and avoiding legal costs.
Shannon has been a financial advisor for 25 years. His specialties include helping his clients with financial development, investment strategy, lifestyle protection and estate organization. 2:00pm: Presentation from Dr. Sean Westerveld: Fall and Winter Preparation in a Changing Climate: Sean will provide a great reminder for fall and winter preparation and advice for avoiding winter damage to your plants. Sean will also discuss the changing climate conditions and the effects.
Dr. Sean Westerveld is the Ginseng & Herbs Specialist for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA) and Adjunct Professor at the University of Guelph. He consults with the Ontario Lavender Association members on all aspects of lavender growing and plant health.

3:00pm: *TBD*: Agriculture Wellness Ontario: Navigating Stress in Agriculture: Focusing on stress management, this presentation addresses the unique pressures farmers face, offering techniques to recognize, manage, and mitigate stress. It introduces practical tools for day-to-day mental resilience.
