Anyone interested in refreshing their knowledge of pests and abiotic disorders of hazelnuts are reminded to register for the Hazelnut IPM Workshop being offered at the Simcoe Research Station, 1283 Blueline Rd., Simcoe ON, next Tuesday, May 30 from 9 am-noon, with a hybrid option for those who cannot attend in person. During the hybrid portion of this workshop (9 am to 11am), OMAFRA hazelnut specialists Melanie Filotas and Jenny Liu will provide an overview of the main insect, disease and vertebrate pests affecting hazelnuts in Ontario, as well as abiotic disorders, monitoring techniques and tools of the trade. For those attending in person, there will be an optional additional hour (11am-noon) to visit the Simcoe Station hazelnuts and view pests present in the field at that time.
Attendance is free and open to anyone, however you must register in advance to attend either in person or virtually. Click here to register. Virtual registrants will be provided with a login to the Zoom session prior to May 30.
Attendees should not that while the workshop will cover key characteristics of the most important pests of hazelnuts, due to time constrains we will not be able to provide detailed information on life cycles and management during the session. There will be time allocated during next Tuesday’s session for participants to ask questions about these vidoes.
