Bioprotec Plus Biological Insecticide label expanded via Minor Use Program for control of box tree moth on boxwood and caterpillar pests on field-grown cannabis and hemp in Canada
- Jim Chaput, OMAFRA, Minor Use Coordinator, Guelph
The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of minor use label expansion registrations for Bioprotec Plus Biological Insecticide for control of box tree moth on boxwood and control of corn borer and cabbage looper on field-grown cannabis and hemp in Canada. Bioprotec Plus Biological Insecticide was already labeled for use on a wide variety of crops in Canada for control of many caterpillar pests. This is one of the first ever minor use registrations for ‘field-grown cannabis and hemp’ in Canada.
These minor use projects were submitted by Ontario as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel.
The following is provided as an abbreviated, general outline only. Users should be making pest management decisions within a robust integrated pest management program and should consult the complete label before using Bioprotec Plus Biological Insecticide.

Boxwood |
Box tree moth (Cydalima perspectalis) |
