The Ontario Biomass Producers Co-operative (OBPC) held their AGM on February 6, 2018. The meeting was well attended, with representation from biomass growers, industry, academia and both the provincial and federal governments. OBPC represents Ontario’s biomass producers, who grow switchgrass and/or miscanthus, both of which are perennial grasses. Research on the impact of perennial grass cultivation on soil organic carbon levels was presented by graduate students from the University of Guelph. A market update was given by James Fisher, the current president of the organization. This update was very positive and indicated that, not only are markets for Ontario’s biomass crops developing, but that co-op members were able to sell into these markets. One highlight of the meeting was the announcement that a production manual and supporting videos were now available on the OBPC website.
