A few haskap blossoms are starting to open in the Norfolk County area.   Although it’s still early to be thinking about protecting your haskap fruit from birds with netting, we have noticed a lot of damage this spring from rabbits chewing on the bushes.  Erecting your bird netting early may help to discourage rabbits (or deer) from browsing on you haskaps.  We have been using 3/4″ mesh (similar to this type) on our haskap trial for the last two years with good success in deterring birds – hopefully it will keep rabbits away this year, too!
